James Gamett, CPA, CFA
Founder & CEO
Mr. Gamett is the Founder & CEO of Sweetwater Capital Partners and chairs the firm’s Investment Committee. Prior to Sweetwater, James was Co-founder & President of Madison Creek Partners, a healthcare services company. While at Madison, James oversaw and completed six (6) acquisitions of eleven (11) healthcare facilities. By the time he left, Madison had reached over one thousand (>1,000) employees and exceeded US$70 million in annual revenues and $10 million in EBITDA. Prior to starting Madison, James was a Partner & Head of Secondaries at StepStone Group, a $14 billion global private capital investment firm. He served on the firm’s Investment Committee. During his private equity career, he has led approximately forty (40) secondary transactions totaling over $1.0 billion in invested capital. He is a CPA and a CFA Charterholder. James holds an M.B.A. from the Anderson School at UCLA and graduated with a B.S. in Accounting from Brigham Young University with University Honors.
Mr. Parise is a Managing Partner at Sweetwater Capital Partners. He is a proven executive with a distinctive, strategic combination of visionary leadership and business acumen. He has been instrumental in building multimillion-dollar businesses. Mr. Parise has over 25 years of portfolio management and financial market experience. He launched Dorado Capital Management (DCM). The hedge fund grew to over $350 million AUM. DCM was acquired by JLF Asset Management where Gregg remained as a managing partner. In 2013, Gregg went into the private sector as CEO of Events.com, a SaaS software startup. Under his tenure, the value of the business grew ten-fold, and the company remains a leader in the endurance industry. Gregg has been featured on the cover of Investor's Business Daily, CBS MarketWatch, The Wall Street Transcript and Barron's. Gregg holds an M.B.A. from the Marshall School of Business at USC and graduated with a B.S. in Finance from SDSU.
Brent Granado, Esq.
Mr. Granado is a Managing Partner at Sweetwater Capital Partners and a member of the firm’s investment committee. Prior to Sweetwater, Brent was founding General Partner of Sway Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm. As General Partner with Sway, Brent served on the investment committee, and helped managed primary and secondary transactions. Prior to Sway, Brent held the position of Director of Corporate Development at DDi Corp. (NASDAQ) of which he was instrumental in the sale of the business to ViaSystems Group, Inc. (later acquired by TTM Technologies, Inc.). Brent has held positions in investments and M&A, including Managing Director at RFC Capital Partners (a merchant bank and private equity fund), and legal counsel, for over 19 years. Brent holds an M.B.A. from the Marshall School of Business at USC, a J.D. from Whittier Law School, and graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of California, Riverside.
Mark Benedyk, Ph.D.
Dr. Benedyk is an Operating Partner for Sweetwater Capital Partners where he provides board support to Sweetwater’s direct and client Life Sciences portfolio companies and advises on Sweetwater’s Life Science investments. Prior to Sweetwater, he was President & CEO of Telephus Biosciences, a company developing innovative immunotherapies to treat drug-resistant infections. He is a director at Alafair Biosciences and at Pulmotect Inc. on behalf of Sweetwater’s client investors. Dr. Benedyk is also a director at Accel-Rx, Canada’s national biotech accelerator, and an advisor to RARE Science which applies genomics insights to accelerate cures for children with rare diseases. Previously, he was Head of The Pfizer Incubator LLC (TPI), Pfizer’s corporate incubator for early stage pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Benedyk has held executive business development roles at Ascenta, Optimer (now Merck NYSE: MRK), and Elan Pharmaceuticals (now Perrigo NYSE: PRGO). He received his Ph.D. in Developmental Genetics from The Rockefeller University, where he was a Lucille P. Markey Graduate Fellow and his B.S. degree in Microbiology and Botany from the University of Michigan.
Mr. Mortensen is a director at Sweetwater Capital Partners and assists in sourcing potential deal flow and supporting investor relations. He is a communications and performance specialist whose clients include Apple, KPMG, Google, Accenture and numerous other Fortune 100 companies. Mr. Mortensen's prior experience also includes developing business to business relations for Hewlett-Packard and project leads for Electronic Arts, Ketel One, and Liquid Plumr.Mr. Mortensen holds a B.A. (Hons) from the University of Manchester in Speech and Performance.
Mr. Kelsay leads the research and valuation efforts at Sweetwater. Prior to Sweetwater, Matt was the Managing Director of Coast Security & Investigations, Inc. in San Diego, California, where he conducted and managed background investigations, due diligence research, and forensic accounting investigations to support legal counsel preparing for civil litigation and corporate acquisitions. In 13 years, Matt used his reputation and experience to build a nationwide client base inclusive of DLA Piper LLP, Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani LLP, the National Football League, and Crum & Forster. Matt holds a private investigator’s license with the State of California and graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration from California State University, San Marcos.
Mr. Rondo provides support to the research and due diligence team at Sweetwater Capital Partners. Prior to Sweetwater, Cameron worked as an Executive Director for Madison Creek Partners, where he managed and operated a 60 bed Skilled Nursing Facility. Prior to Madison, he was an Analyst at Stepstone Global providing research and financial analysis to the private equity team. He also served as a client lead to a large pension plan. Cameron graduated with a B.S. in Business Management from Brigham Young University- Hawaii. Cameron speaks fluent tagalog.
Mr. Shields is the Controller at Sweetwater Capital Partners and oversees the Firm’s finance and accounting functions. Prior to Sweetwater, he worked at Halverson and Company and consulted healthcare, retail, and real estate clients with tax, and accounting matters. Prior to Halverson, he worked at Deloitte where he focused on tax compliance, tax planning, and audit assistance, serving clients in the healthcare, real estate, and investment management industries. Mr. Shields is a CPA and graduated with a B.S. and M.S. in Accounting from Brigham Young University.
Ms. Lewis assists with the office and accounting functions at Sweetwater Capital Partners. Before joining Sweetwater, she worked with a large variety of small business’ managing their accounting needs. Ms. Lewis also was the Tax Manager for Price Club, prior to their merger with Costco, and managed all tax preparation, compliance and audit issues related to the warehouse retail business. Ms. Lewis graduated with a B.S. in Finance from Brigham Young University.
